Many programs offered for download are completely legal, but some may contain spyware, or malicious code that can harm your browser, or infect the PC with a virus. Use for protection anti-spyware and anti-virus programs.
Generally, before any file download-ing check what others say.
Open a search engine like google, write the name of the program, and beside the word "spyware". Immediately see if others had some problems. Always check for viruses before run a program. And finally, make regular backup.
